Local education programmes on climate

2025

Shoolini University demonstrated a strong commitment to climate education and environmental awareness during 2025 by integrating sustainability-focused academic programmes, experiential learning and community-based outreach initiatives. Through its Centre of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology (CEEST), specialised climate-related courses and student-led activities, the University promoted understanding of climate change, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy and environmental protection. Major initiatives included the International Earth Day Celebration involving nine schools, the sustainability-focused campus tour engaging more than 400 students daily, and an educational visit by 84 participants from Army Public School, Dagshai. The University further extended its outreach through a three-day Nature Camp at the CSLC Science Museum and an NSS-led cleaning drive at Ashwini Khad involving 40 volunteers. These initiatives strengthened climate literacy, encouraged environmentally responsible behaviour and extended sustainability education to local communities. Collectively, these efforts advance SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) while fostering a more environmentally conscious and climate-resilient society.

2023

Shoolini University is actively committed to sustainable development, as demonstrated by its wide-ranging efforts to address environmental, economic, and social challenges. While I don't have specific information about a formal Climate Action Plan, the university has taken significant steps to combat climate change and promote sustainability. These efforts include using renewable energy sources, waste management, water conservation, and eco-friendly campus initiatives. Shoolini University's dedication to sustainability and its recognition in global rankings for Sustainable Development Goals underline its commitment to environmental responsibility.

Education

The global thrust for climate change mitigation calls for all organizations and higher education institutions to take immediate measures to lower their carbon footprint. Shoolini University has established a Centre of Excellence in Energy Science & Technology (CEEST) in 2019 which is led by Prof. Shyam Singh Chandel who comes under the global top 2% scientists according to research conducted by Stanford University.

(Stanford Research Link:

The Centre is spearheading the action on various UN SDGs in the University. It has introduced education at B.Tech (Renewable Energy Technology), Master in Energy Technology, Master in Climate Science and Sustainable Development and PhD in Energy, Renewable Energy and Climate Change Issues and Sustainable development. CEEST was ranked 3rd in India for Environmental Science and 15th in India for Energy Research by SCIMAGO Institutes Rankings 2022.

2023

Shoolini University actively provides local education programs and campaigns on climate change, its risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning. The university hosts numerous initiatives, including World Earth Week celebrations, where activities such as banner painting, poster making, quiz competitions, and plantation drives educate students on sustainability and environmental conservation. Events like the Sustainable Mela, declamation contests on climate topics, and collaborative programs, such as the North Zone VCs Conference, further reinforce awareness and education on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmental issues. These efforts highlight Shoolini University’s commitment to fostering climate literacy and sustainable practices among students and faculty.

Existence of Programmes

The university has conducted workshops and a webinar series in the field of energy management, clean energy and energy efficiency among the local community. CEEST faculty is also engaged in delivering lectures in external organizations to spread awareness and share knowledge regarding SDG-7,13 related technologies and issues. Details are provided as follows:

1) All India VC’s Conference Related to SDG in collaboration with Association of Indian

Universities (AIU) hosted by Shoolini University 26-27th Nov. 2021 The university actively promotes UN SDGs and is evident from the various programmes, courses and conferences conducted by the university. As a recent example, the North Zone Vice Chancellors (VCs) Conference sponsored by Association of Indian Universities and hosted by Shoolini University in November 2021 for promotion of role of Higher Education Institutes for implementing SDGs in their campuses and nearby region as well as with collaboration with the government and the industry. The conference was also streamed live on you tube and hosted over 150 VCs and large number of other participants from all over the country (List of research papers, conferences, webinars etc. Provided in Annexure-I, IV,V and VI).
