School of Bio-engineering and Food Technology

Bioengineering applies engineering principles of design and analysis to biological systems and biomedical technologies. Food Technology integrates and applies knowledge within the disciplines of Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology and Nutrition to preserve, process, package and distribute foods that are healthy, affordable, desirable and safe to eat. A growing brand of food science, it involves aspects of processing, preservation, preparation, selection, distribution, etc.

The School fosters student success through academic mentorship, hands-on learning, cutting-edge research, all within a beautiful natural environment. Students are assigned individual mentors right from the first year for their minor and major projects during the program.

To provide global exposure to the students, the school has International collaborations for student exchange and research, which include Cranfield University, UK; Ankara University, Turkey; Çankırı Karatekin University, Turkey; Gachon University, South Korea; University of Naples, Italy.

We have distinguished faculty from top national institutes and universities of Food Technology. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, has sponsored the food technology infrastructure. The school has Himachal’s first commercial food testing laboratory with a financial outlay of Rs. 2.85 crore funded by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI), Government of India. 

We have taken the lead to develop a unique research-oriented B.Tech. degree programme, the Summit Research Programme, that prepares undergraduate students for global opportunities at leading academic institutions and corporate R&D teams. Fully integrated with the regular engineering curriculum, it provides hands-on exposure to high-quality research, experience with writing technical papers, personal mentorship and interactions with internationally acclaimed research practitioners and experts.

M Tech Biotechnology 2 years Bachelor of Engineering/ Technology/ B. Tech Biotechnology or an MSc Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry or any other branch of Life Sciences with minimum of 50% marks.
MSc Food Technology 2 years BSc in any stream with minimum of 50% marks.
