Upgradation of existing buildings
Existence of plans
Shoolini University has already identified and planned to upgrade existing buildings to higher energy efficient building. The following designs are being finalized:
- Retrofitting of Academic offices for thermal comfort improvement during summers & winters
- Retrofitting of Staff Residences for improving thermal comfort with space heating and ventilation systems
- Improving Thermal efficiency of Library building by retrofitting with energy efficient systems
- Design & construction of Energy efficient Yogananda Meditation Centre
- Design & Construction of Solar huts using traditional materials
- Design of International Hostel with Energy Efficient features
- Redesigned and constructed Boys Hostel building for improving Insulation for thermal comfort.
2023
Shoolini University has made substantial advancements in upgrading its campus buildings for higher energy efficiency as part of its Net Zero Energy and Passive Solar Housing Policy. The university has completed sustainable projects like the Yoga Nanda Ville solar huts, the School of Design, and an energy-efficient International Hostel, all constructed using eco-friendly materials such as wood, bamboo, and stabilized mud blocks. In 2023, a passive solar Trombe wall was added to the Animal House building to reduce heating energy costs. The Boys Hostel, redesigned with a composite wall system, enhances insulation and thermal comfort. Additionally, sustainable structures like guest houses, huts, and tree houses incorporate traditional materials for reduced environmental impact. The university also utilizes energy-efficient features like heat pumps, PTC air heaters, LED lighting, solar streetlights, and AAC blocks, cutting energy costs and promoting sustainable development across the campus.

Under the energy efficient building policy, the University has already redesigned and constructed Boys Hostel building in the campus. Additionally, the new construction has composite wall of Cement block & Brick wall for improving insulation, energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Training to engineers, masons were provided in the construction of wall with air cavity and wall with insulation to promote energy efficient buildings in the university campus.as shown in Figure1.
