Theatre Festival

Week-long celebration of captivating storylines and talented performers

Solan, April 18

Shoolini University in Solan started its week-long theatre festival on April 17, showcasing an exciting line-up of thought-provoking plays and performances. The festival follows last year's successful musical event, Panchlight, organised by Shoolini Creative Studio. The purpose is to celebrate the art of theatre and bring together talented performers from across India.

The highlight of the festival is ‘The Seven Horses of the Sun’, a play adapted from Dharamvir Bharti's book of the same name, which explores the themes of dreams, reality, violence, and the class system. Directed by Ankur Saxena Bashar, an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), the play promises to be a fascinating and engaging experience for audiences.

Another play, ‘One on One’, directed by Ranjit Kapoor and his team Rage Production, features a series of monologues that showcase various aspects of life and emotions. Meanwhile, ‘Baithak’, a play by Team Raabta, will present the ancient Urdu oral storytelling art format known as Dastangoi, which dates back to the 13th century.

The festival will culminate in ‘With Love Aapki Saiyaara’, a mono-act play written, directed, and performed by Juhi Babbar Soni, which sheds light on gender issues and the struggles of underprivileged women. The stage will feature other talented performers, including Achint Marwah, Smita Juwatkar, and legendary guest performers.

Bashar expressed his excitement about the festival, saying it promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking event showcasing the best of Indian theatre. With captivating storylines and talented performers, the festival will surely be a hit with audiences and theatre enthusiasts alike.
