
Faculty of Legal Sciences hosted five-day FDP & Workshop
The Faculty of Legal Sciences at Shoolini University hosted a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) and Workshop on Sensitisation to New Criminal Laws from February 27 to March 2. The event aimed to enrich the understanding of recent amendments and advancements in the criminal law system among faculty members, law students, and legal professionals.
The workshop featured luminaries from the legal fraternity, including Former Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police Somesh Goyal, who inaugurated the workshop on the first day. In his inaugural address, DGP Goyal (retd) gave insights into the implementation of new criminal laws and the police perspective on the associated challenges. His interactive session with participants highlighted the importance of understanding and adapting to legal changes.
The discourse continued with Prof Ajay Ranga from the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University. He delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the evolution of criminal laws in India and their societal benefits.
The highlight of the workshop was the session featuring the Senior Advocate from the Supreme Court of India and former Additional Solicitor General of India, Pinky Anand. A vibrant personality, Pinky Anand emphasised the transformative potential of the new criminal legal framework. She stressed the importance of adapting the legal system to modern challenges, including the integration of social media platforms into legal practices.
During her keynote address, Pinky Anand underlined the necessity of reforming the criminal justice system to ensure justice for all, stating, "The transition has to be made and was essential, and we hope that people can get justice through the new criminal justice system to improve in terms of time, expediency, convictions and ensure that justice is given to all."
She also shared inspirational thoughts on the power of dreams and the role of law as a tool for social justice, asserting, "If we don't dream, we can't achieve." The workshop also marked the launch of her book titled ‘Raising the BAR’, co-authored by Saudamini Sharma.
Furthermore, Anand inaugurated the ‘Merch,’ Shoolini Merchandise Store at the university campus.
During the concluding session, Advocate Anand delivered a captivating lecture on various legal norms, highlighting how recent changes in criminal law could pave the way for new avenues in jurisprudence, enriching the legal landscape. She explored the rationale behind these changes and their far-reaching implications on the rights and obligations of both citizens and the state. Her interactive approach facilitated a comprehensive understanding among all attendees, encouraging active participation and exchange of views on the subject matter.
Addressing the audience, Shoolini University Pro Chancellor Vishal Anand commended the Faculty of Legal Sciences for the successful completion of the event. He also shared his vision for Shoolini University, expressing, “Students are the driving force behind our goal of making this university the No.1 in the world. We are dedicated to transforming it into a global institution." Shoolini Chancellor Prof PK Khosla highlighted the importance of quality over quantity in education, emphasising the need for an educational overhaul inspired by the rich Indian culture.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Dean Faculty of Legal Sciences, Prof Nandan Sharma, expressing gratitude towards Pinky Anand's inspirational role and the collective efforts that ensured the success of the workshop.
