Cricket Tourney shoolini
After close-fought matches, Baby Boomers won the men’s title, while Powerpuff Girls lifted the women’s trophy

Shoolini University’s campus turned lively and competitive as faculty and staff stepped onto the cricket field for the Faculty and Staff Cricket Tournament 2026, held from January 7 to 13. More than a sporting event, the week-long tournament became a shared campus activity that brought together teaching and non-teaching staff, encouraging participation, teamwork, and engagement beyond daily academic and administrative roles.

The tournament featured separate men’s and women’s competitions, with teams representing different schools and departments across the university. In the men’s category, Baby Boomers lifted the trophy after a series of closely contested matches. The Bioengineering team finished as runners-up, following a strong performance throughout the tournament. Individual honours in the men’s tournament went to Rohit Sharma, who received both the Man of the Series and Best Batsman awards for his consistent run-scoring. Ashish was named Best Bowler for his effective spells across matches.

The women’s tournament saw Powerpuff Girls claim the title, while Gulab Gang secured the runner-up position. Associate Prof Nisha Kapoor was awarded Woman of the Series for her all-round contribution during the tournament. Sunita received the Best Batter award, and Rama was named Best Bowler for her bowling performances.

The tournament was inaugurated by Prof Ashish Khosla, President, Innovation and Marketing, who encouraged participants to view sports as a way to build unity, support physical well-being, and connect across departments. He highlighted the importance of such activities in creating a balanced and collaborative campus environment.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Founder-Chancellor Prof PK Khosla, along with SILB President Saroj Khosla. They congratulated the teams and individual award winners and appreciated the enthusiasm and participation of faculty and staff throughout the event.

The women’s final was a closely fought contest. The Powerpuff Girls, representing faculty members from the Management, Law, and Media schools, faced the Gulab Gang from Shoolini ODL. The match remained evenly balanced until the final overs, keeping spectators engaged. Anshul Vashisht played a key role with the bat, scoring a decisive 15 runs under pressure. With the ball, Associate Prof Nisha Kapoor took two important wickets, helping restrict Gulab Gang and shift momentum in her team’s favour.

The organising committee acknowledged the support of Brig SD Mehta (Retd), Director Operations, for logistical and administrative coordination. The organising committee thanked Shrad, Pawan, and Gopal for match commentary, and Saurav, Dr Brij Bhushan, Dr Ravinder, and Mayank for officiating as umpires. The committee also acknowledged the support of Prof Neeraj Gandotra, Associate Dean Student Welfare.

The tournament was organised by Assistant Professor Vikrant Chauhan, who coordinated the event and ensured its smooth conduct across all match days.
