PURSE (9cr Grant)

Central government has decided to provide a Rs nine crore infrastructural grant to Shoolini University for funding research activities.

This is a proud moment for every researcher at Shoolini. In a major development, the Central government has decided to provide a Rs nine crore infrastructural grant to Shoolini University for funding research activities. The grant is complementary support for enabling the universities to conduct research more effectively and efficiently.

The ‘Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence’ (PURSE) is a competitive grant marking excellence in research performance throughout the country. There is stiff competition among universities across the country to win the grant. They must present a case and have an exemplary record to qualify. Only 40-odd universities in India have been given this grant to date. Shoolini bagged the PURSE grant due to exceptional Times Higher Education, QS, National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings and a high h-index score.

As per the PURSE grant, 70 per cent of finances will be allocated for modern equipment required for research. The remaining funds will be utilised for consumables, human resources, holding seminars, maintenance, hand-holding start-ups and industrial collaboration.

Welcoming the government’s decision, Chancellor Prof PK Khosla said it was a proud moment for Shoolini as it has been chosen for the PURSE grant from among hundreds of universities and institutions across the country. Prof Khosla said the grant would help the university to buy expensive equipment for valuable research related to life sciences, biology, chemistry and other subjects. The university would be able to set up expensive infrastructural support which is not available under other funding schemes.

Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla said the prestigious grant reflected the confidence of the Indian Government in the innovative research capabilities of Shoolini University. "Our consistent excellence in research has been widely recognised by various independent and credible ranking organisations like the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, QS and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The grant will enable faculty members and researchers at the university to plan high-end innovative research. As the grant must be utilised over a period of four years, the university will soon set up a ‘Project Implementation Group’ for the appropriate expenditure of research funds.

The grant reflects the research credentials of the university, such as h-index & rankings by the Times Higher Education Rankings & QS World University Rankings. Shoolini is a top 400 global university, India’s No.1 private university and top research university (THE World University Rankings 2023).
