New centre, powered by Rs 9-cr grant, to excel as a research hub & job generator
Innovation has a new home at Shoolini University with the launch of its state-of-the-art Bio Innovation Centre. Established through the prestigious Rs 9-crore DST-PURSE grant, this advanced research hub will drive biotechnology, health sciences, and cell biology breakthroughs.
Shoolini is the first institution in Himachal Pradesh to receive this highly competitive funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Equipped with cutting-edge instruments, the facility provides researchers with unparalleled access to advanced technology, enabling groundbreaking discoveries that have the potential to impact industries and society at large.
The DST-PURSE grant is awarded to select universities every year to strengthen research ecosystems by enhancing infrastructure and technological capabilities. This funding has helped Shoolini University acquire approximately 18 research instruments across multiple disciplines, including a Fluorescence-activated cell sorter, a Confocal microscope, an Ultra centrifuge, an X-ray diffraction system and more.
Beyond providing state-of-the-art equipment, the grant also ensures the sustainability and security of the research facility. Enhanced security measures and an advanced waste disposal system have been incorporated into the lab to maintain the highest laboratory safety standards and environmental responsibility.
The Bio Innovation Centre serves as a powerhouse for research and creates new employment opportunities. The facility requires skilled personnel to manage equipment and conduct experiments, opening doors for young scientists and researchers. Additionally, the grant provides funding for essential resources such as:
Consumables for research experiments, travel support for academic collaborations, workshops, seminars, and conferences, and maintenance of instruments.
Establishing this cutting-edge research centre at Shoolini University is expected to attract researchers from across India. The world-class infrastructure will further open avenues for additional external funding and industry partnerships.
“This is just the beginning,” said Assistant Professor Rohit Sharma from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology at Shoolini. “With the Bio Innovation Centre, we have the resources to push scientific boundaries, contribute to global research, and inspire the next generation of innovators,” he added.
With this monumental development, Shoolini University is set to propel to new heights, empowering researchers to make transformative contributions to science and society.
