Early research, real lab work, and a smooth transition to one of the world’s top universities

Nestled in the serene Himalayan hills, Shoolini University is scripting a powerful story of global academic ambition. Ranked India’s No. 1 Private University by the QS and THE World University Rankings 2025, Shoolini has partnered with The University of Melbourne, Australia’s No. 1 university and ranked 13th globally, to offer a one-of-its-kind dual-degree programme

This flagship programme allows students to spend two years at Shoolini, followed by two years at The University of Melbourne, opening doors to international education, cutting-edge research, and career-defining opportunities.

In a candid group conversation, these trailblazing students opened up about what drew them to the programme, the rigorous selection process, and their aspirations that now span continents.

“It’s the best of both worlds,” said Kaashvi Shah from MET Rishikul Vidyalaya, Mumbai. “Financially, it’s more manageable, and the two years at Shoolini give us time to grow before stepping into a new country. It’s a gradual, smoother transition—both academically and personally.”

Maira Ahuja from Pathways School, Gurgaon, agreed: “This pathway gives us global exposure without overwhelming us from the start. It’s designed to help us adapt, and that’s so important at this stage.”

Many echoed this sentiment, adding that the structure reassured families while offering a rare and high-impact academic opportunity.

“The selection process was no joke,” admitted P Nayan from The PAGE Junior College, Hyderabad. “We had a three-hour aptitude test covering physics, chemistry, biology, maths, and logical reasoning, followed by a rigorous interview with faculty from Shoolini and The University of Melbourne.”

What sets this programme apart is the early introduction to real research. Even in their first year, students are working on live projects—exploring antibiotic resistance, quorum sensing in bacteria, and the diverse applications of Moringa seeds.

“It’s exciting to be in the lab this early,” said Namya Dhir from Apeejay School, Jalandhar. “We’re not just learning theory—we’re applying it, and that makes all the difference.”

They’re also getting a glimpse of their future academic environment through online sessions with The University of Melbourne faculty.

“This isn’t just about earning two degrees,” said Kritagya Jain from The Senior Study 2, Amritsar. “It’s about growing into confident, adaptable individuals. These two years are preparing us for everything ahead in Melbourne.”

Several students spoke with excitement about the renowned professors they’ll study under, such as neuroscience researcher Dr Steven Davis and AI expert Professor James Bailey.

“Dr Davis is doing groundbreaking work on stroke,” said Prisha Jhavery from Don Bosco International School, Mumbai. “As someone passionate about neuroscience, I’m thrilled about studying under him.”

Others expressed interest in the intersections of AI, deep learning, and biotechnology in healthcare innovation—looking ahead to roles in research labs or biotech startups.

“The exposure, mentorship, and rigour we’re getting now is a launchpad,” said Mishka Joshi from The Shri Ram School Aravali, Gurgaon. “Whether it’s leading research or launching a venture—we’re being shaped for it all.”

Gaurvi Adya from BCM School, Ludhiana, praised the Shoolini environment: “It’s not just about academics. A whole support system here builds us emotionally and socially before we step into a new world.”

“I’m especially looking forward to the research culture in Melbourne,” added P Nayan. “We’re being trained to think critically right from the start—and that’s the real foundation of innovation.”

With a strong academic base, hands-on research, and a seamless transition to global education, these young minds are ready to take on the world. As they prepare to head to Melbourne in 2026, they carry with them knowledge—and the courage, curiosity, and confidence nurtured every day at Shoolini
