Himanshu Sharma

Assistant Professor

Himanshu Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology at Shoolini University. He holds a PhD from CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He completed his MSc in Biochemistry from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, and BSc (Medical) from Government Degree College, Dhaliara, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. 

 

Asst Prof Sharma’s research focuses on the development and use of molecular markers such as RAPD, AFLP, ISSRs, Genomic and Genic SSRs, Chloroplast SSRs, ILP, and SNPs. His work has applications in genetic diversity, phylogenetics, linkage mapping, and novel QTL identification in plants.  

He has published several research articles and book chapters in reputed SCI and Scopus journals and books. Notably, he has submitted 82 genomic SSR sequences to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and completed a research project funded by DST-SERB, Government of India, as Principal Investigator.  

He has also been awarded postdoctoral fellowships and mobility funds from the Academy of Finland and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Asst Prof Sharma is an Associate and Review Editor for ‘Frontiers in Genetics’ (Plant Genomics), Academic Editor for ‘PLOS ONE’, and Associate Editor for ‘Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution’. 

With vast experience in plant genetics and genomics, he is an asset to the Shoolini University community.
