Breaking Societal Taboos with ‘Her Story, Her Health’

In an effort to challenge societal norms surrounding women’s health, Shoolini University, in collaboration with the women’s empowerment organisation ‘Lajja’, recently hosted a groundbreaking workshop titled ‘Her Story, Her Health: Tackling Menstrual Wellness, UTIs, and Mental Wellbeing Together’.

The workshop brought together a panel of distinguished experts from various fields. Disha Sareen, co-founder of Lajja and founder of Hyper Lab (AI), discussed the empowering role of technology and education for women. Aastha Sharma, managing director at Lajja and a seasoned Australian registered nurse, shared her insights on integrating physical and mental health in diverse cultural contexts. Dr Piyush Juneja, an esteemed Ayurvedic medicine practitioner with 17 years of experience, provided valuable knowledge on traditional health practices focusing on female health disorders. Shreya Batra, an Australian registered psychologist, highlighted the importance of mental wellbeing, especially for women post-childbirth.

The event served as a platform for open dialogue, shared experiences, and collective healing, offering personalised consultations for attendees seeking guidance towards holistic wellbeing. The panellists addressed critical issues such as urinary tract infections (UTIs) and the importance of timely intervention. Dr Juneja also shared Ayurvedic remedies for infections and emphasised the need to regularly change sanitary pads to prevent conditions like toxic shock syndrome.

A notable aspect of the workshop was the active participation of men, indicating a positive shift in societal attitudes towards menstruation, UTIs, and women’s health overall. Shoolini University Dean Student Welfare Poonam Nanda remarked on the university’s commitment to awareness and its status as a taboo-free campus.

The event concluded with an interactive quiz session on topics such as the menstrual cycle, PCOS, infections, and health, with winners receiving gift hampers from sponsors like Boheco, Hempresso, Risen Hursini, Indianvaidyas, Hyper Lab, Dainik Bhaskar, Daily Hunt, and Divya Himachal TV. This workshop marks a significant step forward in promoting awareness and understanding of women’s health issues, reflecting Shoolini University’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
