Shoolini University’s Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology (FASB) celebrated National Science Day on February 28, commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by CV Raman in 1928. A distinguished scientist from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), MV Dhekane, was a special guest on the occasion.
The celebration commenced with a welcome address by the Chancellor of Shoolini University, Prof PK Khosla, who highlighted the contributions of pioneers like CV Raman, Hargobind Khurana, and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar in the field of science. Prof Khosla inspired the audience with his vision of Shoolini University producing a Nobel Laureate in the future. He urged students and faculty to aim high in their scientific pursuits.
In his keynote address, MV Dhekane captivated the gathering with an enlightening journey through India’s space missions. He elaborated on the past, present, and future of ISRO’s exploration efforts, providing detailed insights into the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) missions, the upcoming Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV MK III), the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), and the Aditya-L1 mission. Dhekane also emphasised the importance of learning from failures and the value of review mechanisms to ensure success in future missions.
The event also celebrated the achievements of Shoolini University’s researchers from various departments for their outstanding contributions to research in 2023. Research scholars from the biotechnology department showcased their work through presentations, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
Prof Sourabh Kulshrestha, Dean of Research and Development at Shoolini University, highlighted the importance of recognising research achievements on National Science Day. He stated that with the right support, anyone can become a researcher, echoing the university’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and discovery.
In his closing remarks, Prof Kulshrestha thanked MV Dhekane for sharing his invaluable insights on ISRO’s contributions and achievements, marking a successful celebration of National Science Day at Shoolini University.
