Eligibility : BSc Agriculture/Horticulture/ Forestry with 6/10 OGPA or 60%.
- Duration : 2 years
- Admission Criteria : Shoolini University's multiple choice entrance test, and faculty interaction
MSc Agriculture with specialisation in Genetics and Plant Breeding is a new and thriving branch of modern biology.
The curriculum at Shoolini University includes the art and science of changing the traits of plants to produce desired characteristics and in turn, improve the quality of nutrition in products for humans and animals. Aspirants will primarily study technological methods to improve varieties and genetic stocks, transform the genetic makeup of plants, and create innovative breeding technologies to positively impact the production of food, feed, and fibre.
Most of the faculty is an alumnus of global universities such as Oxford, NIH, NCI, and Johns Hopkins Medical School, as well as top universities of India like IISc, JNU, DU, and ZSI. Many faculty members have received grants from National and International funding agencies.

VISION OF THE PROGRAM
To ensure quality teaching in the Genetics, Cytogenetics, and Plant Breeding related subjects and to facilitate quality research work of PG and Ph.D students.
MISSION OF THE PROGRAM
- To impart capacity building to students through training and guidance.
- To Collect, evaluate, maintain, and characterize the genetic resources of field crops
- To conserve the valuable crop genetic resources by in-situ methods and under controlled conditions
- To evolve superior crop varieties/hybrids with high yield, quality, biotic, and abiotic stresses using classical and also using biotechnological tools
- To conduct multidisciplinary research for pyramiding multiple traits in crop varieties
PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
- To ensure quality seed production of the seed chain of notified varieties
- To disseminate the knowledge on the latest farm technologies to the farmers through on-farm and off-farm mode
- To assist students in strengthening their analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities, students will be taught the fundamental ideas of genetics and plant breeding.
- To teach the knowledge of chromosome structure and function, chromosomal mapping using markers, polyploidy and cytogenetic aspects of agricultural evolution, and how to employ biotechnological tools in crop improvement.
- To create better genotypes with increased production, nutrient efficiency, nutritional quality, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors.
- Develop high-output phenotyping/genotyping systems (SSR and SNP markers) to aid in the development of novel agricultural cultivation.
PROGRAM OUTCOME OR PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME
- PO1: Empowerment of the students to contribute towards improvements in crop productivity, using their knowledge of improved agronomic practices, seed science, diseases and insect/pest management, resource use, marketing, and resource conservation.
