Walk and Street Plays Mark Suicide Prevention Day

The Centre of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences at Shoolini University observed World Suicide Prevention Day with a series of campus-wide activities. These focused on spreading awareness about mental health and the need for timely intervention.

The morning session opened with creative competitions in slogan writing, poster making, and poetry. More than 60 students participated, using art and words to reflect the theme of suicide prevention with depth and sensitivity. Ribbon badges were distributed across the campus as a symbol of solidarity, while student volunteers engaged with peers and faculty to share key messages on mental health. Chancellor Prof Prem Kumar Khosla visited the event, encouraging participants and appreciating their contributions. The morning activities concluded at 12:30 pm.

The second half of the programme featured an awareness walk in Solan town, drawing over 100 students. Along the route, street plays were staged at Pine Court, Reception Block A, and The Mall, drawing a strong public response. Each performance highlighted the importance of recognising warning signs and supporting individuals in distress. Students also carried flashcards with practical information on suicide prevention and raised slogans to reinforce the message.

The walk culminated at Children’s Park, Solan, where refreshments were served to the participants. Speaking about the experience, Rajat Bhatnagar (B Tech CSE AI) said, “When we performed the street play, people stopped and listened. It felt like our message was reaching beyond the campus and into the community.”

Another participant, Vanshika Painuly (B Tech CSE Cloud) added, “Sometimes even a small conversation can make a difference. Today reminded us that every voice counts when it comes to mental health.”

Faculty members and student organisers expressed that such initiatives not only encourage dialogue around mental health but also help reduce the stigma attached to seeking support. These activities showed Shoolini University’s commitment to building a safe, supportive campus while also joining the global campaign on suicide prevention.
