The School of Media and Communications at Shoolini University hosted an insightful expert talk by eminent ethnomusicologist, singer, and creative director Sunaini Guleria Sharma. Her session focused on the importance of being real, original, and empathetic — values she described as essential not only in journalism but also in everyday life.
Speaking to students, Sunaini Sharma highlighted how today’s race for instant fame often overshadows genuine storytelling. She urged young journalists to ask meaningful questions and to stay grounded in truth. “It’s not how you look but what you bring from within — your creativity, honesty, and passion — that truly matters,” she said, encouraging students to focus on authenticity over appearance.
Blending her talk with soulful singing and personal experiences, Sunaini Sharma beautifully illustrated how music connects people across emotions and generations. Calling culture “sound made visible”, she shared stories from her rich legacy as a third-generation musician and discussed how art plays a vital role in preserving heritage. She also advised students to value integrity and originality, even when reinterpreting or drawing inspiration from existing works.
Prof Saamdu Chetri, Director of the School of Yoga and Spiritual Sciences, shared his reflections on creativity and empathy. “True creativity flows from authenticity and a mindful connection with one’s inner self. When we are grounded in empathy, our expressions — whether in music, media, or any other field — become inspiring,” he said.
Prof Vipin Pubby, Director of the School of Media and Communications, thanked Sunaini Sharma for her engaging interaction. He noted that originality, empathy, and integrity are the pillars of impactful storytelling.
Students applauded the creative director’s inspiring message, taking away a simple lesson — to approach their careers and life with confidence, creativity, and sincerity.
