The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the E-YUVA Centre and iHUB Shoolini organised a day-long international symposium on ‘Advances in Natural and Applied Sciences’ on the Shoolini University campus. It brought together scientists, researchers, academicians and students to discuss emerging developments in molecular medicine, cancer biology, phytochemistry, drug discovery and allied research areas.

The symposium was attended by Founder Chancellor Prof PK Khosla, Pro Chancellor Prof Vishal Anand, Registrar Dr Sunil Puri, faculty members, research scholars and students.

Addressing the gathering, Prof PK Khosla highlighted the importance of international scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation-led research in addressing emerging challenges in healthcare, pharmaceutical sciences and sustainable development. He said partnerships between universities and research institutions are essential for translating scientific discoveries into solutions that benefit society.

Welcoming the delegates, Dr Deepak Kumar, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Chief Coordinator of the E-YUVA Centre, said scientific interactions across borders play a vital role in promoting collaborative research and academic excellence. He also noted the growing importance of natural products in drug discovery, adding that medicinal plants continue to offer promising therapeutic compounds with minimal toxicity.

The symposium featured a keynote address by Prof Surat Laphookhieo, Dean, School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand. His lecture on ‘Phytochemical and Biological Activities of Annonaceae: From Chemical Diversity to Bioactive Leads’ explained how the rich chemical diversity of the Annonaceae family has led to bioactive compounds with strong potential for pharmaceutical use.

A second technical session was delivered by Dr Kitiphong Khongphinitbunjong, Associate Dean, School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand. He shared recent advances in honey bee health, bee products and disease management, and highlighted their relevance to sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and global food security.

Dr Arun Kumar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shoolini University, spoke on the design and synthesis of novel heterocyclic and natural compounds as potential anticancer agents. He outlined the role of medicinal chemistry in developing new therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Th Abhishek Singh, Coordinator, E-YUVA Centre. He acknowledged the contributions of the speakers, organising team and participants, and said the event provided an important platform for scientific exchange, international collaboration and interdisciplinary research.
