
Suraj Ka Satwa Ghoda Play at Tagore Theatre Chandigarh

Shoolini University's Creative Studio mesmerised the Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh audience with their brilliant performance in ‘Suraj Ka Satwa Ghoda’ (The Seventh Horse of the Sun). Based on Dharamvir Bharati's classic masterpiece of the same name, the show marked the second triumph of the university's talented students on this prestigious stage.
Renowned theatre director Neelam Mansingh Chowdhry graced the show as the chief guest, while Punjab Engineering College Director Dr Baldev Setia was the guest of honour for the evening. Several prominent personalities watched and appreciated the performance of the students during the show.
Under the expert guidance of Ankur Bashar, an internationally acclaimed performer and Assistant Professor for Performing Arts at Shoolini University, the play offered a fresh interpretation of the timeless tales of Jamuna, Lily, and Satti.
Exploring themes of safe spaces for women, mutual respect, and social disparities, the theatrical performance resonated deeply with the audience. ‘The Seventh Horse of the Sun’ ingeniously weaves together the narratives of the lower-middle-class characters, portraying their life situations, aspirations, and societal constraints. Through Manik Mulla, the storyteller and narrator of the tales, the play provided a captivating subtext that delved into politics, society, and psychology.
An ensemble cast of exceptional talent from Shoolini University in Solan brought these characters to life. The production featured Khushi Goswami, Vibhuti Sharma, Aparajitaa Sinha, Sujit Nandi, Avishek Mandal, Muskan Thakur, Raghav Kapoor, Ved Prabhas, Ankit Sharma, Taranveer Sandhu, Palak Jain, Khushboo Giri, and Sapna, who delivered powerful performances, immersing the audience in the rich emotional tapestry of the stories.
The technical aspects of the play were handled with finesse, contributing to its visual splendour. Vasundhara Laxmi, a Shoolini University student, operated the sound, creating an immersive auditory experience, while Shibani Bose's exquisite costume design added to the overall grandeur of the production.
Shoolini University's creative studio continues to be a powerful platform for emerging and established theatre artists to showcase their talents and share their artistic vision. With its compelling rendition of ‘The Seventh Horse of the Sun’, Shoolini once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering creativity and cultural enrichment within the university and the local community.
