Professor

Top 2% of researchers (Stanford University), Ex (NIT, Hamirpur)

Professor SS Chandel, PhD, ranks among the top 2% of researchers in the field of Energy, as per a list released by Stanford University. Impressively, he stands within the top 1.5536465% of the top 100,000 researchers across all fields in the Lifetime Research Career-long Category, covering the period from 1978 to May 6, 2020. Prof Chandel's career began as a Professor and the founding Head of the Centre for Energy & Environmental Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Currently, he serves as the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology at Shoolini University.

With over four decades of expertise in high-energy physics and renewable energy technologies, Prof Chandel has made significant contributions in several areas. These include solar photovoltaics system design and modelling, solar power generation, solar radiation modelling, photovoltaic (PV) forecasting, and the study of PV degradation. Additionally, his work extends to the development of solar-wind-diesel-biomass-battery-based hybrid systems.

His research is not limited to these areas. Prof Chandel also focuses on passive solar building technologies, passive heating systems, and policy issues related to solar and wind energy. He has conducted comprehensive renewable resource assessments in the Western Himalayan region, utilising Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques.

At present, Prof Chandel is actively involved in the development of passive solar housing technology. His work includes designing and developing PV & Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) power generation systems and PV-based hybrid energy systems. He is also pioneering in PV power forecasting using advanced deep learning techniques, alongside his contributions to energy and environmental policy issues.
