Shoolini University marked World Cancer Day 2025 with a two-week awareness drive, partnering with YouWeCan, the NGO founded by cricket star Yuvraj Singh. From February 4 to 16, the campaign boosted cancer awareness, encouraged early detection, and strengthened community support against the disease.

Poonam Nanda, Director of Sustainability and Community Engagement, spearheaded the organisation and coordination of the campaign. The initiative started with ‘Let’s Talk: Voices of Hope’, a poignant gathering where cancer survivors and their supporters shared stories of endurance and recovery. The opening day also saw a partnership with DATRI for a Stem Cell Registration Drive, which drew a spirited turnout from students and faculty, all keen to register as potential stem cell donors.

The following day, the university campus buzzed with energy during the ‘Stride for Life’ walk, an event filled with music, banners, and powerful messages about the importance of early detection and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. On February 7, the observance of Rose Day saw the campus community distributing roses paired with preventive health messages, urging participants to make health-conscious commitments.

A highlight of the campaign was the ‘Uplifting Spirits’ laughter show on February 12, aimed at promoting emotional well-being and offering a joyful break from daily stresses, enhancing the spirits of those in attendance. Extending their compassionate outreach, students also visited the Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy (IAMD) on February 13, bringing ‘Teddies of Comfort’ to uplift individuals facing severe health challenges.

The events continued on February 14 with ‘Act for Impact’, transforming the university into a lively fundraising site. Participants manned stalls featuring cancer-related information and sold handmade items and food to raise funds for the cause. The following day, volunteers visited the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), where they engaged with patients, offering support through conversations and thoughtful gifts.

The cancer drive concluded on February 16 with a compelling talk on childhood cancer by Ankeet Dave, paired with the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Rejoice’ closing ceremony that highlighted the ongoing importance of sustainability in health initiatives.

Reflecting on the campaign, Poonam Nanda highlighted the importance of awareness, early detection, and robust community support in the battle against cancer. “At Shoolini University, we take a proactive and compassionate approach to health education, striving to make a meaningful difference through collective action and community engagement,” she noted. Through its vibrant activities, the campaign not only spread awareness but also exemplified the impact of community efforts for positive change.
