The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, E-YUVA Centre, and iHUB Shoolini organised a three-day Pharma Workshop and Certification Programme on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Pharmaceutical Sciences’, supported by E-CELL IIT Hyderabad.
The event provided students with practical and conceptual grounding in the use of Artificial Intelligence across key areas of the pharmaceutical sciences. It is being held in two phases — the Pharma Certification Programme at Shoolini University, followed by the Zonal Competition at IIT Hyderabad, where five selected students will represent the university.
The inaugural session featured an address by Founder-Chancellor Prof PK Khosla, who spoke about the need to adopt emerging technologies to advance research and academic growth. Prof Ashish Khosla, President Innovation and Marketing, Shoolini University, delivered a lecture on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Health Sciences’, outlining how AI is reshaping protein structure prediction, diagnostics, and drug research.
Prof Deepak Kumar, Dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chief Coordinator of the E-YUVA Centre & iHUB Shoolini, outlined the workshop’s objectives. He noted that the sessions would strengthen student skills in AI-driven compound generation, retrosynthesis, image analysis, and other areas of modern drug discovery.
Over three days, students engaged in technical sessions, hands-on modules, and guided exercises that demonstrated AI’s growing role across the pharmaceutical value chain. They built simple web portals — including platforms for reporting medicine-related side effects — and worked with real health datasets to develop predictive machine learning models. They also learnt fundamentals of Python-based data analysis and visualisation. A dedicated session on Responsible AI used real-life cases to show how algorithmic bias can emerge.
The Pharma Certification programme concluded with the announcement of five students shortlisted for the Zonal Championship at IIT Hyderabad. A vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Deepak Kumar, who acknowledged IIT Hyderabad for its support.
The organising committee included Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Raveen Chauhan, Dr Nishtha Singh, Dr Shikha Mahant, and Dr Himanshu Gandhi, along with Coordinator Dr Th Abhishek Singh and Project Assistant Subodh Kumar from the E-YUVA Centre.
