Shoolini University’s Centre of Distance and Online Education, inaugurated this year, is another step towards a more inclusive, adaptable, and affordable education paradigm. Spearheading this initiative is Ashish Khosla, the President of AI and Online Education. In conversation with Gautam Sukhija, he gives a primer about the functioning of the centre, and the importance of virtual learning programs in the evolving education landscape.
What’s the difference between online education and distance education?
Online education, a recent initiative recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), enables students to undergo their entire study regime online. This includes video lectures, classes, and examinations. In contrast, distance education maintains a more traditional approach. Students receive designated books for study and are mandated to spend two weeks on campus, culminating in offline examinations.
Which subjects are available for online programs at Shoolini University?
Shoolini University offers a diverse range of online programs. These include MBA with various specialisations, BBA, MA in English Literature, and BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. We offer a BCom program to those interested in distance learning.
Can students interact with teachers for clarification?
Absolutely. Students can engage with their teachers online on a daily basis. They are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification, and participate in discussion forums. Our faculty prioritises responding to these queries.
Could you elaborate on the admission eligibility criteria?
The eligibility criteria is aligned with UGC guidelines. For undergraduate courses, prospective students must have passed their 10+2 examinations. For our MBA program, candidates should have secured a minimum of 50 per cent in graduation.
What can you tell us about the Pay-After-Placement scheme?
The Pay-After-Placement scheme is one of Shoolini University’s distinctive offerings, specifically for BBA and MBA candidates. We have collaborations across five industry sectors – banking, insurance, retail, business process outsourcing, hospitality, and pharma. Students enrolled under this scheme must pay half their fees at the onset. The remaining balance is settled once they obtain a job post-graduation.
Are there any plans to introduce new programs?
Indeed, Shoolini University Chancellor, Prof PK Khosla, recently shared that Computer Science courses like BCA and MCA would soon be launched. However, it’s worth noting that our current BBA and MBA programs hold significant regard in the academic and professional community. Shoolini University is also pioneering efforts in gamified teaching. Our proprietary AI-driven application, ‘Sikandar’, assists students in refining their communication skills. Games like Space Invaders, Snakes and Ladders, and Hangman have been integrated to make the learning process more engaging
