A Workshop to Address Need to Use Renewable Energy in Rural Areas

Environment-friendly groups and organisations use renewable sources of energy to meet their everyday needs. To spread this message further, Shoolini University conducted a workshop on Renewable Energy Awareness for gram panchayats.The aim of the workshop was to bring awareness about the applications of renewable and energy conservation measures in rural areas.

ShooliniUniversity’sHimalayan Center for Nanotechnology and Center for Renewable Energy organised the workshop that was sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of the Government of India(MNRE). The workshop was attended by villagers from neighbouring areas, elected members of various panchayats, industry experts, scientists, government officials, students and faculty of Shoolini University.

Chief Executive Officer of the Himachal Government's Department of HIMURJABhanuPratap Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. He informed participants about policies and programs launched by MNRE to promote the use of renewable energy. He added that there has been an instalment of more than 19 lakh litres of solar water heating capacity in the state.

Sheffler Company Managing Director Parminderjit Singh Sidhu was also a speaker at the workshop. He talked about a technology that his company has developed for this area. Jaspal Singh Sodhi from Kalgidhar Trust, Badu Sahib spoke about the engagement of Surya Mitra Center, which trained ITI diploma holders of a particular village to repair solar lights.

Shoolini University promotes the use of renewable energy at the campus as well. The Girls' Hostel mess utilises solar energy. The university has also installed solar lights in the campus. It also runs battery-operated vehicles to reduce pollution.
