VLCI Regional Centre of Excellence inaugurated in the campus
In the Second phase of the VLCI programme launch, a Regional Centre of Excellence in VLCI was inaugurated at Shoolini University here today. VLCI (Visionary Learning Community India) programme was launched at Shoolini University by Padam Shri Professor Shoji Shiba in 2017.
Various dignitaries from Industry as well as Academia were present, which included Mr. C.S. Patel, Ex- Group CEO of Anand Automotive and Mentor VLCI and representatives from the participating industries like Milestone Gear, Parwanoo; Meridian Medicare Ltd, Solan; Cosmo Ferrites Ltd Solan amongst others. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Prof. P. K.
Khosla, Vice Chancellor besides Mr. C.S Patel and other dignitaries.
This globally recognized programme with proven and universally applicable skill enhancement modules designed to promote manufacturing excellence has been initiated in collaboration of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
The aim of the programme is to transform skills and processes in the Indian manufacturing industry to make it more efficient, competitive and world-class. The program based on live projects runs on close partnership between the participating industries and an anchoring academic institute.
In the second phase the VLCI modules will be introduced in the Engineering curriculum for the University, will be delivered by the faculty trained in the program and will be supported by the hands-on application of learning through live projects in the partner industries. This will create a collaborative community
of future MCLs (Manufacturing Change Leaders), and industry ready trained students every year equipped to serve the manufacturing sector. It is expected to be a landmark and sustainable initiative towards realizing our national goal of ‘Make in India’.
An introduction to the VLCI Program was given by Prof. Arvind Nanda, Director General of Shoolini University. He highlighted the importance of industry-academia collaboration and role of universities in preparing industry ready engineers to make these critical inputs sustainable.
He briefly shared the VLCI history and journey. Dr. P.K. Khosla spoke about Shoolini university’s achievements in the field of research. He shared his confidence that Shoolini University will lead the way towards global excellence in Engineering education as had it successfully demonstrated in Research. Mr. Patel took the audience through the journey of VLCI so far. The delegates from the industry shared their success stories and provided documented evidence of how this programme had benefitted them by increase in productivity and lead to growth in sales turnover. The session was wrapped up by the vote of thanks by Prof. Narinder Verma.
