Shoolini University's Summer Patent School 2023 commenced.
Shoolini University's Summer Patent School 2023, organised by Ideas That Matter — an initiative of the Outreach Team — commenced with the arrival of the first cohort of 19 exceptionally talented and driven student researchers. Described as the country's first and only hub for innovative minds, the Summer Patent School at Shoolini University offers a nurturing environment where students can explore endless possibilities and overcome challenges. The program educates young minds about intellectual property while fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and data analysis.
Participants from 12 states and three Union Territories across India, including Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh have come together to explore uncharted territories in research and innovation. This unique program offers a holistic learning experience, covering AI, industrial designs, research tools, and theatre-based activities to ignite creativity.
The program has garnered immense support from students, faculty mentors, intellectual property advocates, patent attorneys, and IP managers, all working collaboratively to file patents for innovative ideas submitted by students.
The program spans three cohorts scheduled from 4th to 9th June, 11th to 16th June, and 24th to 29th June, respectively, accommodating a diverse group of young researchers on campus throughout the summer. Students not only gain knowledge about intellectual property but are also exposed to new-age advancements and equipped with essential skills for patent filing.

Their unwavering passion, insatiable curiosity, and relentless dedication push the boundaries of knowledge in various fields. This time too, I am thrilled to see the extraordinary talent from across India at Shoolini University's Summer Patent School 2023,” said Outreach Director Shikha Sood.
The Summer Patent School's impact goes beyond academic achievements, as previous participants have received prestigious grants and secured admissions to renowned institutions like the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California San Diego. This success speaks volumes about the program's commitment to fostering innovation and research-friendly mindsets among the future leaders of India.
One of the highlights of the Summer Patent School is the dedicated hand-holding provided to each student. Each student is assigned one faculty mentor and one student mentor to work on their idea. The program encourages students to present their ideas, refined through discussions and guidance. From design aspects to drafting and patent filing formalities, mentors and legal experts carefully support every step of the process. Even if a student cannot identify a suitable patentable idea during the program, Shoolini University assures continued assistance in filing a patent for their future innovative endeavours.
Arohi Shah, a 15-year-old participant from Mumbai, expressed her excitement about attending Summer Patent School 2023. She shared, “It's been an amazing experience. Along with working on our patent document, drafting, and design, we get exposure to various topics and lectures on finance, art, creativity, innovation, and more. We also went on hikes and I made new friends. It has been a fantastic learning opportunity.”
Arohi shared her innovative idea for a phone case integrating an EarPod case and a battery pack. She explained, "The main function is to conveniently carry your EarPods in your phone case. The battery pack can charge your phone and EarPod case 24/7, anywhere, anytime. Shoolini University has been instrumental in helping me understand the formalities, government policies, drafting, and what should be included in the patent application. Their support has been invaluable."
In addition to fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the Summer Patent School equips students with the necessary tools for success in today's innovation-driven world. The program aims to create a generation of researchers and entrepreneurs who will shape the future with their groundbreaking discoveries and intellectual property contributions.
