Shimla/Solan, April 21
Shoolini University has signed a concessionaire agreement with Himachal Pradesh government to manage and curate the new State Science Museum and Planetarium at Shimla.
The agreement signing ceremony was held between Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE) and Shoolini University in the presence of Mr Prabodh Saxena, Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, at Shoghi on Thursday.
HIMCOSTE Member Secretary Mr Lalit Jain signed the agreement on behalf of the government, while Shoolini University Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla and Registrar Prof Sunil Puri signed on behalf of the university.
Mr Jain said HIMCOSTE would establish the Centre for Science, Learning, and Creativity at Shoghi to provide students with practical experience of scientific concepts that they learn through books. The proposed state-of-the-art facility is expected to inculcate a spirit of science and creativity among students.
Expressing excitement about the project, Prof Khosla said several leading artists, scientists and technocrats were mentoring the university for the project. He said the new Science facility “is our commitment to bring deep science, technology and innovation into the heartland of India.” Prof Khosla said he envisioned building something as impactful as the Washington DC National Air and Space Museum. “Museums can change lives and inspire millions,” he emphasised.
Mr Jain said the partnership with Shoolini University was expected to be a game-changer and highly rewarding. The facility will allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, enhancing their learning experience. This is a significant step towards promoting science education in the state of Himachal Pradesh and encouraging students interested in pursuing careers in science and technology.
