Lending a hand in the fight against Cancer, Shoolini University hosted a series of events on World Cancer Day. These included a cricket tournament, a cancer awareness session for housekeeping staff and a visit to the cancer patients at Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla on February 3rd and 4th.
The highlight of the programme was the cricket tournament, called the Shoolini YouWeCan Cricket Championship. Legendary Yuvraj Singh sent a special video message to the warring teams, wishing them good luck for the tournament. The winners received gifts signed by Yuvraj Singh himself.
The audience enjoyed the sporting event to the hilt as eight warring teams from the university fought it out for the top slot. The final battle was between the Shoolini Warriors and Baby Boomers, and the latter emerged as the winner, lifting the coveted trophy. Akshay Chawla was awarded Man of the Match for his impressive performance.
YouWeCan volunteers and the Shoolini Dean Student Welfare (DSW) team visited cancer patients at Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla to offer their support and well wishes. They also presented the patients with fruit hampers.
Additionally, a cancer awareness session was conducted for the women housekeeping staff, led by Dr Sumedha Kushwaha of the Yuvraj Singh Foundation and moderated by DSW Mrs Poonam Nanda. About 100 staff members and volunteers attended the session that focused on the importance of early detection and prevention of the dreaded disease.
Mrs Nanda stated that these initiatives aimed to raise awareness and encourage early detection. After all, she said, cancer was manageable if detected early.
Shoolini University is educating people about the signs and symptoms of cancer, so that they can seek medical help at the initial stage. This will increase their chances of successful treatment and cure.
