Recognised by The University of Melbourne for reshaping Indian higher education through innovation and global ties

Shoolini University Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla has been appointed as an Honorary Enterprise Professor by the University of Melbourne, one of the world’s top 20 universities according to the QS World University Rankings.

The Honorary Enterprise Professorship is a rare distinction awarded to global leaders who have made outstanding contributions at the intersection of academia, innovation, and enterprise. Prof Khosla joins a select group of international thought leaders and entrepreneurs recognised by the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Science for advancing global collaboration and innovation-led education.

Prof Khosla, who transitioned from a distinguished global corporate career to academic leadership, has led Shoolini University to remarkable global recognition. Under his leadership, the university ranked 401–500 globally in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 and 503 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026. This research-focussed university located in Kasauli Hills is also India’s No. 1 Private University (QS World University Rankings) and Overall No.3 in India (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026). Shoolini is also among the Top 100 global universities in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, reflecting its strong performance in research, innovation, and social responsibility.

These achievements underline Prof Khosla’s vision of building a world-class research university from the Himalayas — one that combines academic excellence with innovation and societal impact.

“This recognition by one of the world’s leading universities reinforces our belief that Indian universities can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best globally,” said Prof Khosla. “It also reflects the growing collaboration between the Global North and South in building a more inclusive knowledge future, he added.

The Shoolini Vice Chancellor also leads Daskalos, a pioneering initiative that collaborates with top global universities, including Bristol, York, Aberdeen, and Liverpool, to establish campuses in India under the UGC’s new framework for foreign universities.

The University of Melbourne’s appointment highlights Prof Khosla’s growing international reputation as one of India’s most forward-looking higher education leaders, known for combining academic excellence with entrepreneurship and social purpose.

With this recognition, Prof Khosla joins a distinguished cohort of Honorary Enterprise Professors at The University of Melbourne, including Greg Hunt, James P. Gorman AO, Russell Harrison, Dr Carol Lakkis, and Stephen Duckett — prominent figures in public policy, business, health, and academia.

These appointments are conferred only on individuals whose contributions to enterprise, innovation, and society represent the highest standards of global academic–industry collaboration. Prof Khosla’s inclusion reflects his leadership and impact in shaping higher education and innovation ecosystems worldwide.
