
Proposed: Yoga Centre at UK university for holistic well-being & research
Shoolini University, renowned for its commitment to groundbreaking research, recently hosted a delegation from Newcastle University, United Kingdom. The delegation, led by Professor Richard Davies, Pro Vice-Chancellor Global and Sustainability, aimed to develop a strategic partnership focusing on collaborative research in sustainability. Newcastle University is 110th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2024) and Shoolini University is No.1 Private University in India (QS World University Rankings 2024 & THE World University Rankings 2024).
During their visit, the Newcastle University team, including Dr Aditya Sharma, University Academic Lead for India, and Jo Geary, University Director for ASEAN Strategic Development and Engagement, were impressed by Shoolini University's prestigious rankings and innovative research initiatives.
Shoolini University Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla expressed a strong interest in establishing a Centre of Yoga at Newcastle University. This proposed centre is envisioned as a hub for holistic well-being and research. Additionally, Prof Atul Khosla highlighted the potential for faculty interaction, joint grants, and student/faculty exchange programs to strengthen the academic bond between the two institutions.
The discussion also covered various collaborative initiatives. These include a potential Student Exchange Program, a framework for Joint Graduation, Master’s, and Research Programs, and an International Faculty Exchange Program. Another notable proposal was the establishment of a Yoga Happiness Centre at Newcastle University, mirroring Shoolini University's holistic educational approach.
Prof Rozy Dhanta, Deputy Director of International Affairs at Shoolini University, mentioned that both universities are exploring joint funding opportunities with UK Research Innovation, Delhi. This collaboration aims to bolster research capabilities and innovation. The concept of 2+2 programs, in partnership with the Management, Biotech, and Pharma departments, was also discussed as a means of enriching the academic experience for students.
The visit concluded with Chancellor PK Khosla extending a warm welcome to the delegation. Vice Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla's closing remarks resonated with the delegation's impression of Shoolini University's state-of-the-art labs, extensive library, and commitment to excellence.
