Marathon for Climate Change Awareness in Solan

Over 550 students, faculty members, and fitness enthusiasts came together for the run

Shoolini University organised its Annual Marathon on Saturday, bringing together more than 550 students, faculty members, and fitness enthusiasts from across the region. The marathon on the theme Climate Change Awareness aimed to highlight the urgent need for sustainability while promoting health and fitness. 

 

The run was flagged off from Thodo Ground, Solan, by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahul Jain. He was joined by Shoolini University Founder-Chancellor Prof PK Khosla, Associate Dean Student Welfare Dr Neeraj Gandotra, Director Operations Brigadier SD Mehta (retd), and Dr JM Julka. Their presence underscored the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. 

Participants navigated a challenging route that not only tested their stamina and endurance but also symbolised the resilience required in the global fight against climate change. From spirited students to seasoned fitness enthusiasts, the crowd was a diverse mix of people united by a shared purpose. 

 

The marathon was coordinated by the Sports Department of Shoolini University. It was led by Assistant Professor (Physical Education) Vikrant Chauhan with support from Dr Neeraj Gandotra, Brigadier SD Mehta (retd), and Director Sustainability Poonam Nanda.  

The winners were honoured with cash prizes. In the boys’ category, Arpit (B Tech CSE) emerged victorious with an impressive timing of 58 minutes and 48 seconds to secure an award of ₹2,500. Shashank Rawat (MSc Biotechnology) followed just 10 seconds later, finishing in 58 minutes and 58 seconds to get a ₹1,500 award. Kaulike Sharma (BBA General) took third place with a timing of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 10 seconds, receiving ₹1,000. 

 

In the girls’ category, Bobita Sonar (BA Hons) secured the first position with an impressive 17 minutes and 29 seconds, claiming ₹2,500. Pratiksha (BSc Biotechnology) finished second at 17 minutes and 31 seconds, winning ₹1,500, while Ayushi (BSc Psychology) came third in 18 minutes and 31 seconds, receiving ₹1,000. 

 

The marathon concluded with a strong message — that awareness, endurance, and collective action are key to building a healthier planet. By combining fitness with sustainability, Shoolini University showed its commitment to the environment and society.
