Shoolini University offers MPharmacy Pharmacognosy to enable in-depth and research-oriented study of medicines derived from natural resources. Located in the Himalayas, our students have easy access to a large volume of natural resources.
Graduates of the course study the cultivation of medicinal plants and analytical techniques. They are able to work on phytochemistry, biogenesis and plant biotechnology.
Highly recognised for its high-impact research, Shoolini University students regularly file patents. Students also receive JRF grants worth approximately Rs 35,000 per month.
Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines derived from natural sources, and the interactions that occur between a living organism and chemicals that affect normal or abnormal biochemical function. Substances having medicinal properties are considered pharmaceuticals.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE
- PEO-1: Should be able to thoroughly understand natural products specifically encompassing the study of secondary metabolites of potential medical applications leading to drug discovery and development.
- PEO-2: Should be able to gear with comprehensive knowledge and skills to deliver service in identification, isolation, characterization, formulation, and standardization of natural drugs integrating with allied fields leading to effective natural product research.
- PEO-3: Should have good hands-on training in bioactivity guided fractionation, fingerprinting of phytoconstituents, design and development of herbal formulation using modern analytical techniques.
PROGRAM OUTCOME OR PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOME
- PO-1: Knowledge: Students will have strong theoretical background along with necessary skills in pharmaceutical sciences and the ability to apply them in research and development.
- PO-2: Core Competence: Students will be competent in the domain of specialization viz., Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Drug Regulatory Affairs, Research Methodology and Statistical Evaluation of data as per the requirement of pharmaceutical industry.
- PO-3: Breadth: Trained students will have practical efficiency in analytical techniques in drug and formulation development and in clinical research, new drug application and application of quality assurance in all aspects of drug research so that they are able to extend this knowledge to create new products for the benefit of life.
- PO-4: Preparation: Students will be prepared to excel in pharmaceutical research and also to succeed in pharmaceutical industry or academics through innovative teaching methodologies that stimulates students to self-learning and further their knowledge.
- PO-5: Professionalism: Students will be inculcated with professional values, effective research communication skills, prioritizing problems and solutions and an ability to view pharmaceutical issues in broader context.
- PO-6: Evaluation: The ability to evaluate important aspects of the matter they have studied, weigh the pros and cons and utilize the principles of pharmaceutical sciences.
