Professor Arvind Kumar Bhatt is a distinguished academician and consultant with more than 33 years of experience in teaching and research. He serves as an Advisor for Research at Shoolini University and a Consultant and Advisor in Biotechnology for the Government of Himachal Pradesh's Department of Science, Technology, and Climate Change. He has earned an MSc in Botany, an MPhil in Advanced Microbiology, and a PhD in Life Sciences with a specialisation in Industrial Microbiology. His areas of expertise include Industrial Biotechnology, Microbiology, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Biofuels, and Waste Management.
Additionally, Professor Bhatt is the Nodal Officer-In-Charge of the Biotechnology Incubation Centre at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, and serves as President of the Association of Biotechnologists of Himachal Pradesh (ABHI). He is also a member of the State-Level Task Force on Biotechnology in Himachal Pradesh. His previous roles include Dean (Planning and Teachers Matters) and Head of the Departments of Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Forensic Science at HPU, where he also held positions as Treasurer of the Indian Science Congress Association (Shimla Chapter), President of Vigyan Bharti, Himachal Pradesh, and Director of the Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (IIHS). Prof Bhatt was also the Coordinator of the University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT) and Associate Editor of the HPU Research Journal.
Professor Bhatt's academic credentials are marked by three University Gold Medals, National Scholarships, and esteemed research fellowships from CSIR. His international recognitions include the GBF (Germany) Training Award and the Best Teacher Administrator Award. He has consulted for international organisations like ICIMOD (Nepal) and Nanobiosym (USA).
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Bhatt has mentored three Postdoctoral researchers, 20 PhD scholars, 18 MPhil students, and 53 Master's students. He has authored 115 research papers, a book published by Elsevier, and contributed to 10 government publications, policy papers, and project reports. Additionally, he has led more than 24 research projects and delivered over 100 invited lectures.
Professor Bhatt's extensive administrative experience includes nine years as Head of Industrial Biotechnology for the Himachal Pradesh Government, significant leadership roles at Himachal Pradesh University, and 2.5 years leading R&D and Quality Control at a multinational company. His broad academic, research, and administrative expertise and his leadership in various organisations highlight his prominent role in biotechnology and related fields. He continues to make substantial contributions to academia, government, and industry.
