Vinaykumar Rachappanavar is an Assistant Professor at the MS Swaminathan School of Agriculture. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Agricultural Science, Dharwad, Karnataka, and completed his MSc at CSK HPKV, Palampur, supported by an ICAR-JRF Fellowship.
Asst Prof Rachappanavar secured 6th All India Rank in the ICAR-SRF PhD Entrance Test in 2017, leading to his enrollment at Dr YSP UHF, Nauni, Himachal Pradesh. During his doctoral research, he collaborated with prestigious institutions like ICAR-CPRI and NBPGR regional station, Shimla. His commitment to learning is evident through two agricultural diplomas from IISDT, India, and successfully clearing the ICAR-NET examination thrice — in 2017, 2020, and 2021.
Dedicated to continuous learning, Asst Prof Rachappanavar completed over 35 online short-term courses from renowned institutes worldwide, including UC San Diego, University of Manchester, John Hopkins University, University of Alberta, and Yale University. He has received recognition and awards for his outstanding contributions by actively participating in national and international seminars, conclaves, and training programs,
Rachappanavar has authored over 20 research articles and published more than 15 book chapters. His dedication to advancing agricultural science is clear from his submission of over 5 research projects for various calls.
He teaches Genetics and Plant Breeding, and Seed Science and Technology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Actively involved in Himalayan region-specific research projects, he collaborates with national and international research institutes on developing high-yielding varieties of tomatoes, peas, maize, kiwifruit, ground apples, and green gram crops. His extensive expertise and hands-on experience make him an invaluable asset to Shoolini University.
