Countdown begins for Manchtantra

Excitement is building up in the campus as the most awaited annual cultural and variety show in the University campus, Manchtantra, gets closer. The inter-departmental competitions would be held from October 12 with the grand finale will be on October 14.

Excitement is building up in the campus as the most awaited annual cultural and variety show in the University campus, Manchtantra, gets closer. The inter-departmental competitions would be held from October 12 with the grand finale will be on October 14.

The event is promising to be bigger and better than the previous year with possibilities of renowned artists from external institutions for judging the event.  There will be a total of six faculties participating in the event - Faculty of Management Sciences and Liberal Arts, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Bioengineering. Each faculty will be getting one and a half hour for conducting its events. Hence, a total of three-hour programme will run each day from 5 pm till around 8 in the evening.

Manchtantra

Although, the slots may vary a bit, yet the competitions are to be held in such a way that Faculty of Bioengineering and Faculty of Basic Sciences will be competing on day 1 i.e. on October 12 followed by Faculty of  Biotechnology and Faculty of Engineering on day 2 i.e. October 13. The final day would call for the competition between Faculty of Management Sciences and Liberal Arts and Faculty of Pharmacy.

In 2017, the Faculty of Engineering bagged the overall trophy of the competition followed by the Faculty of Bioengineering as the second position. The competition is judged in such a way that each category has a weight age of marks. Before the event, marketing matters a lot. Promotion is not only done on the university level but on the social sites as well. The competition includes Group Dance (Bollywood), Group Dance (Western), Group Folk Dance, Group Song (Medley), Solo Song, Duet Song, Semi/Classical Dance (solo/duet), Mime and the theme based Fashion Show. Each of the above mentioned categories weighs 30 marks, 30 marks, 20 marks, 20 marks, 20 marks, 20 marks, 30 marks, and 50 marks respectively. Apart from this, faculty participation and comparing are also very important and weighs 100 marks and 50 marks respectively.

The preparation for the interdepartmental competition has already begun a month ago and with full dedication, everyone is now full of enthusiasm. The auditions are almost done and each department is ready with its team to perform on the stage. The three-day extravaganza will be a full dose of dance, music, and drama involving the students as well as the faculty. High on energy and excitement, the competition is seen as a “Battle of Departments” by most of the students.
