{"id":601,"date":"2019-02-27T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T11:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.shooliniuniversity.com\/?p=601"},"modified":"2021-04-23T19:45:51","modified_gmt":"2021-04-23T19:45:51","slug":"padmavat-much-ado-about-nothing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shooliniuniversity.com\/blog\/padmavat-much-ado-about-nothing\/","title":{"rendered":"Padmavat: Much Ado About Nothing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Controversy on Padmavat turned out to be baseless when the movie was finally released in India. All the fears expressed and allegations levelled by the Karni Sena proved erroneous. It reacted violently even before knowing anything about the movie and demanded a ban on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the famous Indian film director is\nwell-known for his movies based on Indian history and mythology. He had made it\nclear that the film was based on a story written nearly two centuries after the\nreign of Allaudin Khilji. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"94\" height=\"166\" src=\"https:\/\/shooliniuniversity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Sara-Sharma-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-602\"\/><figcaption> <strong>Sara Sharma<\/strong> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Karni Sena alleged that Bhansali\u0019s film shows Rani\nPadmini in bad light. It also objected to the ghoomar song picturized in the\nfilm saying that \u001chistory was witness that none of the Rajput Maharanis has\never danced in front of anyone and the movie-makers cannot play with the\nhistory.\u001d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A section of women of Rajasthan were upset with this film\ntoo because this film was made on a queen who was epitome of sacrifice. They\nadded, \u001cRather than highlighting Padmini\u0019s sacrifice, the film maker has sought\nto highlight the romantic angel in the movie\u001d which is not true. They have\nclaimed all these objections for the movie before they had even seen it. The\nreal reason behind this protest by the Karni Sena against this movie originated\nfrom something else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the head of Karni\nSena Lokendar Singh Kalvi said: \u001cResponding to a question asked to actor\nRanveer Singh whether he was playing the role of villain in the movie, the\nactor responded that he could go two notches beyond playing the role of villain\nif he is given two intimate scenes with the lead female character in the film.\u001d\nSomeone sent that clipping to Karni Sena in Rajasthan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaders of Karni sena tried to contact the movie director\nand Ranveer Singh for the justification of that clip, but when there was no\nresponse they attacked them on the airport. But this protest took an ugly turn\nwhen Deepika Padukone, who plays Padmavati, was threatened with physical harm\nand a crew member was actually assaulted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karni Sena even tried to stop the shooting of the movie,\nburnt movie sets and threatened the actors but somehow under tight security\nthey all were able to complete the movie. They presumed things and evidently\noverreacted to mere presumptions. Their acute mindset led to the destruction\nand unnecessary tension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nowhere in the movie, Rajputs were shown weaker. In fact\nthey were shown as courageous and strong, prepared for any sacrifices to\nprotect their honour and their culture. Nor did the film show any affair\nbetween Khilji and Padmavati, as was being presumed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Padmavati is portrayed as a symbol of courage and bravery.\nUnfortunately the film remains banned even now in some of the states even after\nseveral cuts and editing. Yet wherever it has been released, it has proved a\nbig success. That is not only in India but abroad as well.
