Sri Sri blesses all and gives success mantras at the 3rd convocation
Spiritual master and founder of Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who has a massive following in India and abroad, blessed all at the 3rd convocation of Shoolini University on November 7.
Delivering the convocation address, he offered valuable advice to the graduating students and complemented the University for maintaining high standards of education. He pointed out that he had never attended a convocation during which such a large number of PhD degrees (91) were conferred at one go.
He said that one should remember three things in life. First, that meditation is important for combating anxiety and insecurity. “You can get rid of insecurities by doing meditation and yoga.” He said spirituality was not only about sitting and thinking but “being alive with enthusiasm having confidence in yourself and not letting insecurities creep in you anytime”.
Second, he said, one should be able to face humiliation and should not run away from it. “Don’t run away if you face humiliation. Hold on to your stand. Many great leaders fear humiliation”. And thirdly, he said that one should adapt to all situations and live in the present moment. “Be adaptable to any situation.”
He congratulated the Vice Chancellor for aiming to take the University to be among top 200 universities for the world. He also said that from Himalayas, this message is going that we really stand tall.
Elaborate arrangements had been made by the University to welcome the highly revered chief guest. He arrived in the afternoon and was received by the Chancellor Mr. Ramesh K Mehan and Vice Chancellor Prof P K Khosla, Pro-Chancellor Mr Satish Anand, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla and other dignitaries.
Eminent educationist Prof Dinesh Singh, former vice Chancellor Delhi University, was the Special Guest at the convocation which began with Sarsvati Vandana. Thereafter the Vice Chancellor declared the convocation open.
About 1600 degrees including 91 PhDs were awarded to students besides 40 gold medals and 9 merit certificates to those who have done exceptionally well in academics.
Addressing the convocation, University Chancellor Mr Ramesh K Mehan said that science, education and spiritual values were closely intertwined in forming one’s character providing basis of success.
He said that the university’s success story teaches two great life lessons. First, that dreams can come true and secondly that if we want your dreams to come true you have to be willing to do a lot of work. He said the university will continue to contribute to the country’s growth and success under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor who are there to transform Shoolini into a world class University worth emulating by others.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof P K Khosla said the university was indeed fortunate that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar had accepted our request to be the chief guest at the convocation. He said it was a proud day for the university to have a great humanitarian and symbol of divinity after having Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as the chief guest for the first convocation and Nobel laureate Dr. Robert Huber for the Second Convocation.
Referring to the vision of the university to be a top 200 global university, the Vice Chancellor said that “We, being in Himalayas have adopted a research theme of conservation and sustainable utilization of Himalayan bio-resources. The university has made rapid strides over the last eight years on research pursuits which is evident from over 80 extramurally funded projects. The university has opened channels with industries for joint research projects, training programmes and industry inputs in curriculum development”.
He also mentioned that professors from overseas universities are also visiting Shoolini University to teach for varying durations. “There is also a choice based credit system which has been adopted by the university allowing students to choose general electives from subjects such as photography, music, spirituality, sex education, values & ethics etc.”, he added.
Prof Khosla said the university has been rated as B++ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university has become synonymous with excellence and adopted high standards of education which have received recognition and appreciation from various bodies. Spread over 15 acres, the university has state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipments. The faculty comprise of highly qualified teachers and researchers, mostly with PhDs and two dozen with post docs from international centers of excellence.
He further added that we have chartered our road map for achieving our Vision-2022 which rests upon five verticals i.e. high caliber faculty, quality infrastructure, strong alliances with industry and academia, bright and needy students supported by committed and transparent governance.
