Vibrant Technical Sessions Feature 33 Research Presentations on Human Rights
The Faculty of Legal Sciences at Shoolini University recently hosted a National Conference on Equality. This event brought together prominent legal experts, distinguished personalities, and researchers to discuss innovative strategies in law that address contemporary societal challenges and promote fundamental human rights.
Prof Nandan Sharma, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences, welcomed the distinguished dignitaries, including Capt Rameshwar Singh Thakur, HPPSC Chairman and former SPG for the Prime Minister; Prof Amit Ludhri from Kurukshetra University; Prof Sanjay Sindhu, Professor of Law at Himachal Pradesh University; and Prof Kesari Singh, representing the Vice Chancellor’s Office. Captain Thakur was felicitated for his invaluable contributions to public service.
In his welcome address, Prof Nandan Sharma spoke about the legal avenues available to upscale basic human rights and highlighted the potential of modern policies to create equitable opportunities.
The keynote address, delivered by Prof Amit Ludhri, emphasised the critical need to secure fundamental human rights before advancing policies to meet contemporary demands. He urged the youth to lead empathetic and inclusive policymaking initiatives and minimise wealth disparities to ensure equal opportunities.
Guest of Honour Captain Rameshwar Singh Thakur discussed the challenges of feudalistic mindsets in governance. He advocated for leadership that prioritised justice and fairness, encouraging attendees to embrace a transformative vision to eliminate inequality and build an inclusive society.
Asst Prof Poonam Pant outlined the importance of actionable strategies discussed during the inaugural session, emphasising the need to reduce inequalities and promote human rights.
The technical sessions saw vibrant participation, with 17 online and 16 offline research presentations exploring diverse themes related to human rights and eradicating inequality.
The valedictory session commenced with the felicitation of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, followed by an insightful address. Justice Thakur shared his views on legal frameworks for reducing societal disparities, drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, Sister Nivedita, and ancient Indian texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads, weaving historical wisdom into contemporary legal discourse.
Prof Nagesh Thakur, a distinguished physicist from Himachal Pradesh University, explored the history of human rights before 1948. He highlighted the resilience of the human spirit during India’s political subjugation, offering a reflective perspective on the role of intellectual freedom in shaping historical movements.
Prof Sanjay Sindhu provided visionary insights on inclusive policies to promote collaboration across sectors and address societal challenges.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Prof Himanshu Sharma, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, co-organisers, and participants.
