Intellectual Property India lists Shoolini University 6th among the Top Indian Applicants of patents
Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences holds more than 30 biotechnology and bioengineering patents. Recently, Intellectual Property India, Officer of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indications, Government of India listed Shoolini University as the 6th top Indian applicant of patents from all Indian universities and institutes in its annual report for 2015-16.
The university lays immense focus on research work with more than 85 science labs and around 200 MPhil & PhD scholars. According to last year’s report by Intellectual Property India, Shoolini University has applied for 22 patents. More recently, the university applied for patents in Novel Drug Development, Industrial Enzymes, Water Purification and Environment Remediation, miniaturization of antenna for defense applications, Novel benzothiazole derivatives with enhanced biological activity and designing of a flying chair. The research findings have been filed for patents and are refined further for technology transfer and licensing.
At a time when superbugs have become aggressive and resistant to antibiotics, there is incessant research for a solution to kill this resistance. Researchers at Shoolini University are looking for anantibacterial drug that lays the foundation for stronger drugs with lesser side effects. They see potential in plants to provide sources for novel drug compounds that may give birth to new therapeutic options. Some of the above research findings focus on production and commercialization of enzymes and have developed effective nanocomposite materials for antimicrobial treatment of drinking water.
