Conference on 'Food Processing & Preservation Technologies' launched, sees 170 participants from all over India
A two-day National Conference on ‘Contemporary Food Processing and Preservation Technologies’ was launched at Shoolini University today, being attended by 170 participants. The conference was formally initiated by lightening of lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana. Head of School of Bioengineering and Food Technology Dr. Dinesh Kumar gave the welcome address and gave a brief overview of the Department and the University.
He highlighted that the faculty members of the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology has filed 35 patents till date and the Food Technology program of the School is sponsored by the Ministry of Food Processing.
He also stated that shortly a commercial food testing laboratory will be established in the University campus for which funding has been approved by the Government of India. He concluded his address by welcoming the dignitaries and participants for this National Conference.
The conference is being attended by 170 participants from diverse regions of India. A number of distinguished scientists and professors will address the participants through their plenary lectures. The conference will comprise 4 technical sessions in which selected participants will deliver oral lectures. This will also be accompanied by a poster presentation session.
Sponsored by NABARD, this is the third conference being organized by the School of Bioengineering and Food Technology. It will serve as a platform for scientists and researchers to share novel ideas and disseminate new research findings.
A key note address was delivered by Dr. T.R. Sharma, Director NABI, Mohali. He appreciated the progress of Shoolini University and underscored the applications of biotechnology in increasing the shelf life of foods. The major developments in food sector are in the areas of food fortification, development of coating materials for foods and increasing the shelf life of foods.
Dr. S.K. Sharma, Chairman, SPNHS-FSSAI, New Delhi also addressed the august gathering. He emphasized the need of balanced diet for development of body, mind and soul. He further stated that healthy food leads to healthy progeny.
