ASSOCHAM honours Shoolini VC with best Entrepreneur Education Award |
|
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) awarded Prof PK Khosla, Vice Chancellor of Shoolini University with the prestigious best Entrepreneur Education Award for the year 2012 in recognition of his immense contribution to the cause of quality education by establishing premier educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh. ASSOCHAM is India's 92 years old premier apex chamber, which has a membership of over four lakh companies and professionals across the country.
Shri Bhishma Narain Singh, former Union Minister and Ex Governor of Assam and Tamil Nadu presented the award to Prof Khosla at ‘Concern 2012’, an International Summit on higher education held at Gurgaon on March 4, 2012.
Highlighting the contributions of Prof Khosla in the field of education, ASSOCHAM spokesperson said, “Prof Khosla is a dedicated leader and great champion of higher education. He established a non-profitable organization, Shoolini Institute of Life Sciences and Business Management (SILB) in 2005 with a mission to provide affordable quality higher education to the youth from rural and semi urban areas of Himachal Pradesh.”
“Soon SILB became a beehive of academic activities under his stewardship and quickly attained a top 10 position in India in its area of focus. Within 12 months of its establishment, SILB also emerged as the most preferred biotechnology and science postgraduate institution amongst colleges affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, and it is the only college in Himachal Pradesh that is recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India as a research organization.”
“With the successes of SILB and his passion for providing holistic higher education in Himachal Pradesh, Prof Khosla set up a specialized private university of biotechnology and management sciences, the first of its kind in India. In just 30 months of operations, Shoolini University is now rated amongst India’s top five private biotech institutions (BioSpectrum, 2011), and is considered one of North India’s finest universities. Due to its excellence, Shoolini has gained membership of Association of Commonwealth Universities.”
“Prof Khosla has served as Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishva Vidyalaya, Palampur and as Senior Scientific Advisor to Government of Himachal Pradesh. In his four decades of untiring work, he has shown an inspirational sense of initiative and entrepreneurial acumen.”
Thanking the ASSOCHAM for the award, Prof Khosla said, “The present award has put more responsibility on his shoulders, and he has now a vision of making Shoolini University as a top 200 global university in the next ten years, especially when none of the Indian universities figure in this league.” ¬
